ACS, a Xerox company has announced that it has acquired the software training company The Breakaway Group, adding a new cloud based service that will accelerate their adoption of Electronic Medical Records to help healthcare providers prepare for ICD-10 compliance and maximize their meaningful use funding.
Denver-based firm’s technology, PromisePoint, allows caregivers to practice using an EMR just as they would in the hospital or doctor’s office. By simulating their environment, they get familiar with using the system to enter orders and document patient care, without jeopardizing real patient data.
Breakaway’s management team and employees will remain with the company, with current CEO Charles Fred serving as managing director. Charles Fred stated, “Our mission to make it easier for healthcare professionals to adopt new software and workflows is powered by the very real issues of improving safety and decreasing costs in healthcare.” ACS is a strong supporter of this and their global resources allow us to reach well beyond our original vision and make a bigger difference.”
Only time will tell if this acquisition is beneficial for both parties.
