Avinent launches the world’s first Google Glass app for dental surgery to provide clinicians with access to precise step by step information minimizing risk during implant surgery
Avinent, a Barcelona, Spain-based dental implant company has developed a new Google Glass app for assisting surgeons with dental implant procedures. The application called Avinent Glass was developed in partnership with the software development company Droiders and Dr. Jesús López Vilagran opens up possibilities for dentists to precisely follow each steps of dental implant surgery through Google Glass (Wiltz/Middionline/7/22).
How It Works
Avinent Glass works by analyzing the QR codes through Google Glass as well as voice commands to locate the implant. Once the implant is tested and verified, the device displays different information classified according to their functionality. These will be identified before surgery, so the doctor will know which implant should be used. Glass Google automatically recognizes all features (batch, expiration date, diameter, etc …) of the implant and displayed. These instructions are based on four simple voice commands OK, NEXT, BACK, CLOSE.
The application provides a pre-operative clinical assistant checklist that includes everything the surgeon needs and should take into account before performing surgery. All the tools needed are shown in the (x-rays, surgical tray, etc …) screen.
Track surgery protocol : The application will inform the surgeon on every moment of the surgery instrument necessary for each of the different functions to be performed. During the surgery, the physician can take photos of the event that will be automatically stored in the application and Google’s own gallery with the voice command, “PHOTO.”
The app provides greater patient safety, minimizes risks and can serve as a valuable training and knowledge transfer tool for physicians.
“This is the first app for Google Glass in the implantology field, and there is still a lot of potential. After several months of hard work, we have been testing the AVINENT Glass with several surgeons, recording their feedback to make sure the app is useful for the surgeons’ everyday work,” says Albert Giralt, general manager of Avinent.
The Avinent Glass app is expected to be available for Google Glass later this year. Below you can see the video of Dr. Jesús López Vilagran using the app to perform real surgery.
